What
is a Credentialed Psychologist? |
 |
Credentialing
in the psychology profession means that in addition to holding
a license, a psychologist has met the national standards
of the National Register of Health Service Providers in
Psychology. |
Just as medical doctors are both licensed to
practice and certified in their specialties, psychologists
also receive post-doctoral training or supervised experience
and become certified by the National Register as a health
care provider. |
|
The
National Register was established in 1974 with the help
of the American Psychologist Association and the American
Board of Professional Psychology to develop and implement
standards for identification of an acceptable doctoral program
in psychology and a qualified health care internship.
The organization
awards the health care credential to psychologists who voluntarily
apply for and meet their standards. Thus, consumers are assured
that every psychologist on this site has met the most rigorous
criteria in the psychology profession for education and training
and adhere to ethical standards for practice. For more information,
see www.nationalregister.org.
The list of psychologists available on findapsychologist.org is not, nor does it claim to be, inclusive of all psychologists who meet the criteria. It is not intended, nor does it purport, to evaluate the quality or competence of persons listed or of the services provided by anyone listed or not listed in the Register. It is not intended as an employment register. Rather, it is designed to identify psychologists who meet the stated criteria and who have voluntarily applied for inclusion.
